膠裝

胶装书

胶装是圖書裝訂方法的一种， 1887年由美国纽约布鲁克林区的Horace L. Arnold发明[1] ，但實際上要到1931年之后出版业才真的通過這種途徑来裝钉书[2] ，现时膠裝是业界最常用的钉装方法[3][4]。胶装即是将构成实体图书的散页沿书脊对齐、夹紧，然后涂上胶，将其粘合在书脊上[3]。用这种方法钉装的书叫胶装书。

胶装通常用来裝訂平装书或杂志[5] ，但也用来裝訂精装书[6]。它的其中一个优点是价格便宜[7] ；缺点是大部分膠裝書无法完全摊平[3]并且使用久了可能会掉页，不过这两个问题的严重程度与所使用的胶水类型有关。

胶装书的内页有厚度下限，不能太薄，下限大概為3毫米[8] ，理由是太薄会难以制作书脊[5] ；根据纸张的厚度，書若需要膠裝，內頁可能至少需要48页[8]或64页以上[5] 。

用胶

早期的胶装用的膠是用橡膠或动物皮熬制出来的胶，但是这些胶膠裝出来的书都有严重的掉页情况[1] 。

1940至50年代热熔胶（乙烯/醋酸乙烯酯共聚物）发明后基本上已经取代了橡胶和动物胶[1] ， 1989年开始有人用反应型聚氨酯热熔胶膠裝[9] 。反应型聚氨酯热熔胶比起热熔胶（乙烯/醋酸乙烯酯共聚物）能耐冷和耐热，而且用這種膠膠裝的书甚至可以摊平[10] 。
