Fujieda MYFC (藤枝MYFC, Fujieda Maiefushī) are a Japanese professional football club based in Fujieda, Shizuoka. They currently play in J2 League, the Japanese second tier of professional football. It was previously funded by online subscribers and was the first of its kind in Japan.

The club spent two seasons in the Japan Football League before having their application accepted in 2013 to participate in the inaugural season of J3 League in 2014.[1]

History

Foundation and early development (2009–2012)

Fujieda MYFC was formed in 2010 after a merger of two clubs, Fujieda Nelson (named after Daishiro Yoshimura's Brazilian middle name) and Shizuoka FC. The MyFootballClub project bought Fujieda Nelson CF in 2008 and renamed them Fujieda MYFC.[2] Then in 2010, MFootballClub bought Shizuoka FC and merged the two clubs to form Fujieda MYFC. Toshihide Saito was appointed player/manager of the club.

In their first season the club finished 1st in the Tokai League Division 1 but was knocked out of the Regional League promotion series.

On 2011, they took second place in the Regional League promotion series and therefore won promotion to the Japan Football League[3] for the first time, becoming the third representative of the prefecture in the national leagues. They then dropped the Shizuoka from their name and become just Fujieda MYFC.[2]

In 2012, the club finished their first season in the Japan Football League in 11th place and therefore secured their place in the division for the following 2013 season.

Rise to national level and J3 participation (2013–2022)

After finishing 13th in the Japan Football League in 2013, the club were accepted in the inaugural J. League Division 3 which competed in 2014.[1] Following the club's acceptance, player/manager Toshihide Saito decided to leave the club.[4]

On 7 January 2014, Musashi Mizushima was appointed as manager, following Saito's resignation.[5][6]

Promotion to J2 and recent progress (2023–present)

After nine seasons in the J3 League, Fujieda MYFC secured promotion to the J2 League for the 2023 season. They were promoted to Japan's 2nd division for the first time in club's history, following a 0–0 draw against AC Nagano Parceiro in the last matchweek of the 2022 season. The club finished as runners-up with total 67 points earned in 34 matches.

On 26 September 2023, Fujieda MYFC was declared to have met the requirements to obtain a license up to J1 League level.[7]

Supporters

The supporters of Fujieda MYFC are primarily based in Fujieda and the surrounding areas of Shizuoka Prefecture, a region widely regarded as one of the traditional heartlands of Japanese football. The club has built a steadily growing fanbase since its formation in 2007, with strong emphasis on community involvement and local identity.

On matchdays at Fujieda Soccer Stadium, supporters gather in organized groups behind the goals, creating a lively atmosphere with coordinated chants, flags, and banners. The close proximity between stands and pitch enhances the connection between players and fans, making the stadium atmosphere particularly intense despite its relatively small size.

Fujieda MYFC supporters are known for their strong local pride and consistent backing of the team through its rise from regional leagues to the professional divisions of the J.League. The fan culture reflects the club’s identity as a community-driven side, with supporters playing an important role in promoting football culture within Fujieda and the wider Shizuoka region.

Rivalries

Fujieda MYFC does not have one single long-established traditional rivalry, but it has developed several competitive matchups within the Shizuoka Prefecture and the wider J.League system.

One of its most notable regional matchups is with clubs from the same football-rich prefecture, particularly Shimizu S-Pulse and Júbilo Iwata. While these fixtures are not always formal rivalries, they carry added significance due to the strong football culture in Shizuoka and the contrast between established top-tier clubs and an emerging side like Fujieda MYFC.

Theme song

In April 2019, Fujieda announced that Kaihōku by Asian Kung-Fu Generation would become the club's official support song.[8][9]

Stadium

Fujieda Soccer Stadium

Fujieda MYFC plays its home matches at Fujieda Soccer Stadium, located in the city of Fujieda. Opened in 2001, the stadium has a seating capacity of around 5,056 spectators and is a football-specific venue designed to provide a close and engaging viewing experience.[10]

The stadium is known for its compact layout, with stands positioned close to the pitch, allowing supporters to feel directly involved in the action. This creates a strong home atmosphere, especially during key matches in the J2 League and J3 League. Unlike larger multi-purpose venues, Fujieda Soccer Stadium offers an intimate environment that reflects the club’s community-based identity.

Situated in a football-rich region of Shizuoka Prefecture, the stadium also benefits from the area’s strong football culture. It regularly hosts league fixtures as well as domestic cup matches such as the Emperor's Cup, and has become a central hub for football development in Fujieda.
