Sports Club Sagamihara (スポーツクラブ相模原, Supōtsukurabu Sagamihara) commonly known as SC Sagamihara (SC相模原, Esu Shī Sagamihara) is a Japanese professional football club based in Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture. They currently play in the J3 League, Japanese third tier of professional football.

History

SC Sagamihara is a football club based in Sagamihara. The club was founded in 2008 and quickly rose through the Japanese football league system, aiming to represent the city of Sagamihara at the professional level.

In 2011, Sagamihara joined the Division 2 of the Kanto Football League after three years of consecutive promotions through the Kanagawa Prefectural League. In 2012, Sagamihara won the Regional Promotion Series and were promoted to the Japan Football League.

In 2013, Sagamihara joined the newly established J3 League, becoming one of the founding clubs of the third division of the J.League.

For several seasons, the club competed in J3 while working to strengthen its squad and infrastructure. Since 2014, Sagamihara has belonged to the recently established J3 League, where they played for seven seasons before their efforts paid off in 2020 when Sagamihara finished in runners-up in the 2020 season which secured promotion to the J2 League for the first time in club history.

However, their stay in J2 was short-lived, as the club struggled against stronger opposition and was relegated back to the J3 League after the 2021 season.

In 2025, the club are playing their 4th consecutive season at the J3.

Among their players, former Japan national member Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi has featured for Sagamihara.

Supporters

The supporters of Sagamihara are primarily based in Sagamihara and the surrounding areas of the Kantō region. The club has developed a loyal local fanbase since its establishment in 2008, with supporters playing an important role in building the club’s community identity.

Sagamihara’s fans are known for their organized cheering sections and coordinated chants during matches. Supporters often gather behind the goal stands at the club’s home stadium, creating an energetic atmosphere with flags, banners, and drums throughout the game.

Because Sagamihara is located within the highly competitive football region of Kanagawa—home to several major clubs—the supporters place strong emphasis on representing their city and building a unique identity for the club within the wider J.League football culture. Community engagement and local pride remain central aspects of the relationship between the club and its fanbase.
